About Eleanor ...

Picture
Eleanor grew up on the Isle of Man, where she learned the violin from an early age. Studying under Dorothy Shallcross and then William Pickering, Eleanor went on to win the biennial Young Musician of Man competition. She was appointed leader of the Manx Youth Orchestra, and performed with them as a soloist, at home and on tour abroad.

Eleanor has performed on several occasions with the English Symphony Orchestra, and was appointed co-leader for the ESO Youth Orchestra project. She also attended the Elizabeth College Summer Orchestral Course in Guernsey for several years, leading the orchestra in her final year.

After moving to England, Eleanor gained a place at Trinity College of Music, where she studied for her degree in Classical Performance with Gillian Findlay. It was here that she began learning the viola with Peter Lewis. She achieved Grade 8 Viola with distinction, less than a year after taking it up! During her studies, Eleanor was leader of her University Symphony Orchestra, and an enthusiastic member of several string quartets.

Now living in Colchester, Eleanor regularly performs with her ensembles, the Terracotta Duo and the Camulos Quartet. She also teaches violin and viola to students of all ages and abilities.
